Happiness, one of the few things worth living for and you turn your back on it. How dare you?
The most fundamental aspect of human consciousness is our attitude. No matter what circumstances you face, you can be in prison, you can be sick and you can be poor, but no one can take away the command of your attitude. So why is it that I do not understand yours. Your attitude towards your own happiness bewilders me.
“The secret of happiness is not in doing what one likes, but in liking what one has to do.” ― SIR JAMES M. BARRIE
You put everyone else first and you think that makes you a hero. But I see everything you hide from others. I see that your eyes are heavy and it’s hard for you to smile because you don’t smile from the heart, you smile for others. And you think you deserve an award for that, sacrificing yourself for the sake of opinions.
So your friends think that your hobbies are silly, that you should follow them instead, and you do. Your parents don’t believe in you, so you stop believing in yourself. You like that girl/boy in town but people think he/she is strange, so you keep your feeling to yourself. That group over there laughs at all the same jokes you do, but no. You chose to remain with those who send you home with this uncomfortable feeling in the pit of your stomach. And now you come to me, for applause. You think you deserve an award for putting people first. Well, I think you have been selfish.
“There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something.” ― HENRY FORD
The one life the universe gave you, you told her it wasn’t enough, that you preferred everyone else but yourself. I am here to tell you enough. Time you make yourself happy too. You deserve it. And don’t you dare lie to me, because I will always be able to see it in your eyes.
I don’t care that everyone comes to you with their secrets, they trust you to solve their problems even though they never ask about how you feel. You are selfish because you do it for the attention. You love how it feels to be needed but guess you, you need you to. So work at doing the things that make you happy and see what sort of life unfolds. I promise you won’t regret it.
It is time for a change of attitude.
I know you, you will agree with me. You will tell me that you are going to start focusing more on yourself, anything I need to hear, anything to make me happy. Then you will go right back to making everyone else happy, never remembering yourself.
“Nobody really cares if you’re miserable, so you might as well be happy.” ― CYNTHIA NELMS
That’s fine. But in those moments when you sacrifice all those little things you want for your one life, ask a few questions. Why don’t you deserve your happiness? What are you getting out of it and is it worth it? And when will it be your turn to be your priority?
Don’t ask yourself these questions right away. Wait for when it is the most silent.
And then ask finally, when you are settled into that life you have convinced yourself is enough. Ask one more question when no one else is there, “if you are living the life you want to, then, why do you feel so alone? Shouldn’t you be happy?
